A project to restore, regenerate and rebuild our Waiariki waterways.
Aotearoa New Zealand is facing a major biodiversity crisis.
The cumulative effect of years of neglect and unmanaged landuse have resulted in a situation where immediate and sustained action is required, particularly around our waterways. Big decisions and changes are needed to the way that we manage and look after our waterways and this needs to be driven by leadership from the government, industry and local communities. Tipu Wai is a group of like-minded people from a variety of backgrounds coming together for a common cause; restoring, regenerating and rebuilding waterways.
Tipu Waiāriki focuses on restoring the mauri (energy balance) of the Waiāriki water catchment from source (Mamaku) to sea (Maketū) through a detailed planting regime of native plant species with seeds sourced from mature plants within the Wairaki catchment. Research and evidence indicate that using locally sourced plants has a proven success rate for improving biodiversity and water quality. We cannot achieve our goals alone. Find out how you can help.
